The Zafras Story
Certified Master Inspector Ramon Colon lives by the motto “never stop learning, never stop growing.” That’s what led an engineer in a family full of engineers to learn something new, start his own business and grow it into a successful venture with his wife, Leydi, at his side. Ramon worked as a plant engineer for the Miami Tunnel construction and later as a quality engineer for an aerospace manufacturing company. He was very good at the job but wanted to do something on his own. Soon after the birth of his first son in 2015, Ramon was inspired to venture out on his own as a home inspector. He fell in love with the industry and the potential he saw to make a difference. Since then, Ramon has devoted himself not only to his own company but also to the Home Inspectors industry. He was co-founder of the largest nationwide home inspector networking group on Facebook (Inspector Brotherhood), and he is currently on the Board of Directors for the Home Inspectors Association of South Florida. His experience and dedication to continued education qualified him as a Certified Master Inspector by interNachi. The name Zafras comes from the Spanish “zafra,” which means “sugar cane harvest” or “sugar crop.” Ramon found out that his great-grandfather supported his family by harvesting sugar cane, a grueling and tedious job. Ramon named the business Zafras as an homage to his hardworking great-grandfather.

Ramon’s wife, Leydi Colon, joined Zafras Property Services full time in 2021. Leydi’s career began as an Industrial and Systems Engineer in Logistics and Healthcare. Her passion for innovating and making a positive impact on people’s lives has carried over to Zafras. Leydi’s role is to ensure our business runs efficiently and our customers are well taken care of before, during and after the inspection.
Ramon and Leydi were born in Puerto Rico and Colombia. They grew up in South Florida, and both are proud alumni of FIU Engineering School. Their two children are the fuel that runs their passion.
Family is at the heart of Zafras, and our hope is to go above and beyond to give the best services to the families who hire us.

Lester Johnson
Hello, my name is Lester Johnson. I’m a husband, father and newly licensed Florida Home inspector since December 03, 2021.
I’m a retired Sergent of Broward Sheriff’s Office Dept. Of Corrections I became a home inspector to start my own business and to give my life more independence. I’m also excited about assisting people in maintaining safe homes. Inspector Ramon Colon has been my mentor since January 2022. I share the same values, work ethic, and commitment to excellence as the Zafras Property Services family.
